10 Little Indie Hot Picks

Fed up with hearing the same old tunes? Well, why not cast your ears over ten of our new specially handpicked hot picks!

MRY - WALKING ON FIRE

After debut single 'Way We Go' amassed over 27k streams on Soundcloud, Los Angeles-based MRY follows with this new shimmery indie-pop foot-tapper, out now via YouTooCanWoo, which he describes as "a song about looking up into space and dreaming back into a summer escape as you feel autumn closing in."

SIXTEEN JACKIES - YOU CAME

First cut from the Philadelphia outfit's debut EP 'Movie Was Bad', released October 20. With an offbeat pop sensibility, it breezes along on a melodic, bittersweet chord progression, and melancholic vocal.

FOND OF RUDY - TO BE MINE

The Brighton outfit’s latest offering is a sub three minute smooth blend of synthpop, driving, choppy hooks and buoyant rhythms.

DEVON - WEIRDO

Jangly guitar pop debut single from the Gloucester-based indie popper, which he says is a "rant directed at the types of people that judge others for being different.”

THE BLUE WAVE PAVILION - SONG OF CEDRIC

The Leeds-based post-punk/new wave four-piece make their debut with this double A-side (w/'Food For Yourself') single, out on November 29 accompanied by a launch party at the Lending Room in Leeds.

DEAD NATIVES - I GOT MENACE

This new track from the London Britpop-blending four-piece, follows their huge 'Something Strange' EP from the beginning of the year, with more Richard Ashcroft/Liam Gallagher inspired vocals from Liam Dutch, and psych influences, paired with catchy guitar lines.

SWINE TAX - FEELS LIKE

Fourth single from the Newcastle indie-rock trio, following their summer released 'Brittle'. Written and recorded during the band's August residency at the Sage in Gateshead, it is more upbeat and accessible than its predecessor, with playful vocal delivery and a kind of Spaghetti Western opening.

DEAD PRETTIES - WATER

A more downtempo follow-up to the gritty debut of ‘Social Experiment’ - though still with plenty of scorching guitars and raw vocals - this new track, available as a limited edition AA-sided 7” (w/'Confidence') on November 3, from the south London trio is described by frontman Jacob Slater as "a song about deliberate self-destruction, allowing something to slowly kill you because you think the kick you get from that makes you feel more alive than anything else."

CEILING DEMONS - THE ROSE

Lead single from the North Yorkshire collective’s new album 'Nil', out now on Win Big Records. Always lyrically emotive, the band excel on this dark track even more so. Dedicated to the memory of a close friend they lost, while not an earworm as such, its simplicity and stirring, distinct vocal style conjuring up a Leonard Cohen/Nick Cave feel, is one that sticks in the mind. Catch live at Fiddlers Elbow, London for Oxjam Camden on October 28.

DANCEHALL - KO

The London-based three-piece return with yet another garage-pop blaster, which with B-side 'Vitamins' were both recorded in one evening with producer and co-Vibe/Anti-Vibe label manager, Christopher Smith.
