Track Of The Day :: Embers - Drowning

Words: Linn Branson

Debuted last night (October 9) by John Kennedy on his Radio X Xposure show, Embers return with new single ‘Drowning’.

Having unveiled 'Until The Dawn' last month, this is the second part of their double A-side single and of their live filming at their Manchester hometown's Albert Hall and comes prior to release on November 24.

Taking a more atmospheric and measured approach to previous material, with cinematic styling and the introduction of electronics, though still as big and intense a sonic palette as we have come to expect from Embers.

"It's the best thing we've ever recorded, in our humble opinion, because it feels new for us," says guitarist Steven McInerney. "It's genuinely different - ten times more considered than usual Embers songs. We've tried merging electronic influences and the whole song is a lot more of a slow burner with some Bon Iver/London Grammar and choral influences, with almost trip hop beats."

Embers play Tooting Tram & Social, London on November 3 and Manchester's Soup Kitchen on November 4.
