10 Little Indie Hot Picks

Ten of the latest hot picks that have been rockin the player at Little Indie HQ over the last weeks.

RETRO VIDEO CLUB - CHEMISTRY

Edinburgh four-piece released this new single last Friday; a big rugged, loud indie-rock number about, as vocalist Liam Allison explains, “having some sort of a connection with someone that you can’t explain, and how their behaviour changes whenever you’re with them… ironically I guess it’s my way of trying to explain how hard it is to explain the reasons for having a sordid connection with someone.”

LOA LOA - GIVE ME WHAT I WANT

Following on from 'Pyrric' and their ‘IX. V. V. VI’ EP, this latest single from the Brighton outfit packs a three-minute-plus punchy onslaught of ragged vocals, meaty drums hooky guitar work.

A GREAT QUIET - A SHARED PLACE

From their debut EP 'Soft Breath and Echoes' released earlier this month, produced and mixed by established producer James Darkin at Herbert Place Studios in Dublin. The duo, Will O’Donnell and Aran Cardiff, based in Co. Kildare in Ireland, kick off with some resplendent drums before the mellow vocals come in on silky guitars and lush melodies.

AMBR - WHITE LIES

The 19-year-old singer-songwriter and BIMM student Megan Farnfield from Surrey, lends her classical vocal training to this atmospheric alt-pop number of upbeat rhythms.

DOVE HOUSE - TEETH

Brighton four-piece offer 'straight-up indie rock & roll', though to be honest, there sounds more of an alt-grunge vibe going on on this new single released on February 9. Attention-grabbing intro rolls into thumping bass and drum beats, helmed by raw-edged vocal.

NOLITA VIEW - THE ROAD

Taken from their debut album 'Late To The Races', released last October, the South London band are dropping this as their new single. The follow-up to 'Monster', it strikes a foot-tapping course with a singalong chorus and catchy melodies.

CAPE CUB - COME AROUND

North East producer Chad Male always turns out the beautifully melodic, and this just released new track, out through LAB Records, is no less affecting. The slow-building grower, is described as his most personal and introspective to date. “If you've ever seen a loved one in a hospital bed, or close to the end, this one is for you. It's about watching a person you love slowly fade away, and spending every day desperately hoping they’re not gonna become a victim to the cards they've been dealt. It's a time and place where every one of that person’s virtues come to the fore and you realise you just can’t lose them. When every memory you've ever had of them feels more visceral with each day,” he says.

CREEPING JEAN - STICK AROUND ME

The Brighton outfit follow last year's debut single ‘Honey In The Sun’, with another nod-along, catchy 60s-esque number, which they describe as "inspired by Harry Nilsson to write a tune about your puppy. I did just that its called 'Stick Around Me'."

HIMALAYAS - IF I TELL YOU

Out April 20 on Peepshow Records, the new cut from the Cardiff garage rock 'n' rollers is a brash, bold rocker with sharp riffs, assured drums and a mosh pit energetic pulse. “The song plays on the idea of capitalism and the bleakness of current society. With the lyrics being inspired by the situationist movement," says singer Joe Williams.

SAM FENDER - FRIDAY FIGHTING

The fifth self-released single by the 22-year-old Newcastle singer-songwriter is a radio-friendly earworm of pounding beats and a biting indie vibe that shows how Fender earned a place on the BBC Sound of 2018 longlist.
